Skeletal Variation, Tension, Compression…response from Paul Grilley

If you haven’t read it yet, a recent article came out speaking about “flexibility” and the correlation of injuries and yoga. This brought attention to Yin Yoga Master, Paul Grilley and he was asked to comment on the recent article NY Times published, “Women’s flexibility is a Liability (in yoga).” Mr. Grilley responded back with clarification and the broad and loosely used term “flexibility.” See attached link.

Here’s his response.

Thank you to Mr. Grilley for the detailed response. Correlation is not causation (agreed!). It is understanding tension versus compression (yes). Understanding our own skeletal variation and how it affects our range of motion. EveryBODY is different. I highly recommend Paul Grilley’s Anatomy DVD for any yoga practitioner.
